摘要
The technical properties of cemented carbide are strongly affected by the processing route chosen by the manufacturer, and this paper attempts to clarify the effects of processing route and microstructure on these properties. The variables introduced in the production, milling, and consolidation of the carbide and binder phases are considered, together with the finishing and coating options. Properties are discussed with regard to four categories: composition, microstructure, defects, and surface region conditions. Particular attention is given to transverse rupture strength, which is strongly porosity dependent, and the effect of coating on tool wear. The effect of trace element is also briefly considered. It is concluded that much work is still required on the behaviour of performance properties before any general processing-property relationship can be proposed, although the behaviour of intrinsic and (to a lesser extent) defect related properties can now be predicted satisfactorily.
