NON-EQUILIBRIUM DISSOCIATION OF CO INDUCED BY ELECTRON-VIBRATION AND IR-LASER PUMPING

摘要
Dissociation rates of CO under the influence of electron-vibration and infrared-laser pumping have been calculated by solving a system of vibrational master equations. The results show that high dissociation rates can be obtained under strong noneequilibrium conditions, even though the deactivating action of oxygen atoms on the vibrational energy selflimits their production. The superpsotion of a pulsed CO laser on the eectrical discharge increases the dissociation rate by almost two orders of magnitude. The results have been explained on the basis of a VV up-pumping mechanism. The numerical results are used as a basis to understand experimental dissociation rates of CO both in electrical discharges and under CO laser illumination. © 1979.
