摘要
Over 90 patients have been treated at the Sphincter Research Unit, Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Exeter, for the control of urinary incontinence by electrical stimulation. This paper outlines some of the equipment and methods developed and used in an attempt to: (1) assess a patient's suitability for this type of treatment, (2) provide continuous muscle stimulation, (3) measure and record useful information during the operation, (4) provide satisfactory post-operative and follow-up checks. The over all success rate of this type of treatment is only briefly mentioned as this has appeared in detail elsewhere (Caldwell, 1967;Caldwell, et al., 1968). © 1968 International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering.
