摘要：

This investigation was designed to determine whether the established cleavage furrow requires the presence of the polar and subpolar cell regions for normal function. Furrows and furrow fragments were surgically isolated from flattened, cleaving eggs of Echinarachnius parma, Hydractinia echinata and Aurelia aurita. The isolated furrows completed division despite the trauma of the operation and drastic shifting of the internal cytoplasm. Evidently the presence of the polar regions of the cell is unnecessary for furrowing at the equator. © 1969.
