Glass corrosion is primarily governed by the diffusion of cations to the surface. This is modified by any chemical changes taking place at the interface. We demonstrate the value of normal incidence and glancing angle EXAFS measurements for elucidating the corrosion properties of glass, taking studies of phosphate and borosilicate glasses as examples.
