摘要：

It is proposed that the structure of water near certain interfaces is different from that of bulk water and that this vicinal water readily undergoes structural transitions at discrete temperatures. This phenomenon may, in part, be responsible for the often reported thermal anomalies ("kinks") in aqueous systems.
