摘要
In this review the impact of surface science in metallurgy is outlined. Surface science is involved in a very wide range of metallurgical problems, in particular in those entailing segregation or adsorption to the three interfaces: grain boundaries, free surfaces and interphase surfaces. The theory of segregation to grain boundaries and free surfaces is outlined with emphasis on the predictive aspects. The metallurgical problems are illustrated by analysis of the problems of temper brittleness, creep embrittlement and interphase adhesion, each problem involving one of the above interfaces. © 1979.
