SILICA-DEPOSITED PHOSPHOLIPID TUBULES AS A PRECURSOR TO HOLLOW SUBMICRON-DIAMETER SILICA CYLINDERS

摘要
A 50-nm-thick silica film was deposited on a phospholipid tubule surface through aggregation of 10-15-nm-diameter silica particulates from an aqueous dispersion. The silica films were mechanically strong enough to remain intact during freeze-drying. When dry coated tubules were heated to 600-degrees-C, the phospholipid decomposed and hollow silica cylinders were left behind. When the coated tubules were electrolessly plated with nickel metal, hollow ferromagnetic cylinders were obtained.
