The Ba-Y-Cu oxide of the formula Ba//2/////3Y//1/////3CuO//3// minus // epsilon ( epsilon approximately equals 2/3) is a single phase high-temperature superconductor with a superconducting transition temperature, T//c greater than equivalent to 100 K. A compound having the formula Sr//2/////3Y//1/////3CuO//3// minus // epsilon has not been reported. In this work, the effect of substituting Sr for Ba in the structure and the superconducting transition temperature of this compound have been investigated. Since the Sr**2** plus ions are smaller than the Ba**2** plus ions and T//c decreases with increasing value of x (i. e. Sr concentration), larger ions on the Ba**2**30 -sites favour the formation of higher T//c compounds.
