THE INFLUENCE OF BASSET FORCE ON PARTICLE DYNAMICS IN 2-DIMENSIONAL FLOWS

摘要
Motion of a small spherical particle with density of the order of the fluid density in the two-dimensional flow of a viscous fluid is studied. The local flow disturbance around the particle is assumed to be creeping and the particle Reynolds number is considered small. An approximate analytical solution for the particle velocity is derived, inertial effects and the influence of Basset force on the particle motion in an axisymmetrical vortex and in cellular flow are considered. Results of numerical integration are also presented which well agree with analytical solutions.
