摘要
Chronic obstruction of the lower genitourinary tract, the major manifestation of BPH, results in characteristic pathological changes in the structure and function of the bladder. Here, we describe how an experimental animal model of bladder outlet obstruction involving the rabbit has been used to identify specific genetic markers associated with the response of the bladder to partial outlet obstruction. More important, these types of studies indicate that two particular growth factors, basic fibroblast growth factor and transforming growth factor-beta, act in a strategic and opposing manner to regulate bladder growth and regression in response to partial outlet obstruction.
