ISOPROPYLPHOSPHIDO AND ARSENIDO DERIVATIVES OF GALLIUM AND INDIUM - ISOLATION OF GALLIUM PHOSPHORUS AND INDIUM PHOSPHORUS DIMERS AND TRIMERS

The first isopropyl-substituted trimers of the type (Me2M(mu-E-i-Pr2))3 (1 M = Ga, E = P; 2 M = In, E = P; 3 M = Ga, E = As) have been synthesized. The structures of 1 and 3 have been established by X-ray crystallography. The M3E3 rings of both compounds adopt a distorted boat conformation. On vacuum sublimation, trimers 1 and 2 are converted quantitatively into the corresponding dimers, (Me2Ga(mu-P-i-Pr2))2 (4) and (Me2In(mu-P-i-Pr2))2 (5), respectively. Preliminary OMCVD studies reveal that the mode of decomposition of 3 is significantly different from that of the analogous t-Bu derivatives.
