The origin of the quadrupole splitting in the mossbauer spectra of some organotin halide complexes

摘要
Mossbauer spectra of some organotin(IV) chloride complexes, measured in an applied magnetic field. show that the quadrupole interaction (1/2e(2)qQ) is positive when the organic groups occupy axial positions and negative when they are equatorial: this implies that the electric field gradient arises primarily in the valence-shell of the tin atom.
