BIFURCATIONS AND CHAOS IN NEWBORN-INFANT CRIES

摘要
Several cries of newborn infants are analyzed using computer spectrograms and methods from nonlinear dynamics. A rich variety of bifurcations (e.g. period doubling) and episodes of irregular behaviour are observed. Poincaré sections and the analysis of the underlying attractor suggest that these noise-like episodes are low-dimensional deterministic chaos. Possible implications for the very early diagnosis of brain disorders are discussed. © 1990.
