Magnetic after-effect measurements have been carried out on the amorphous alloy Tb52Ag47 at various temperatures. The magnetisation is found to decrease with time t according to lnt. The temperature and time dependence of the measured coercive field have been determined. It has been found that the magnetic after-effect exists, whatever the temperature, only for a particular range of the magnetisation. The authors have attempted to explain their results according to an activation law in which the activation energy varies as 1/H. The characteristic features of the energy associated with this law are discussed, as is a model for the anisotropy. The orders of magnitudes of the volumes in which a magnetisation reversal takes place under the simultaneous influence of applied field and under activation have been estimated and compared. Certain characteristic features of these volumes are discussed.
