摘要
An elastic property of fixed striated frog muscle has been described. The component responsible for the elasticity has been located in the I-band by comparing stretched and unstretched portions of the same muscle fiber in the electron microscope. The component parts of contraction bands have been described for the first time. They have been observed in stimulated, fixed, stretched muscle fibers. The mechanical properties of this fixed elastic component have been measured and compared to measurements of the series elastic properties of fresh whole muscle. The series elastic element has probably been identified with actin in the I-band. The reestablishment that single resting fibers obey Hooke's Law is indicated from the linearity of the length-tension diagram for fixed single fibers. © 1969 Academic Press, Inc.
