REVERSAL OF THE MAGNETIC-ANISOTROPY OF CD1-XFEXS AT HIGH MAGNETIC-FIELDS

摘要
The magnetization of Cd(1-x)Fe(x)S, with x = 0.0081 and 0.0159, was measured at 1.2 K and 4.2 K in magnetic fields H both parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis. At low fields the magnetization for H parallel-to c is larger than that for H perpendicular-to c, but at high fields the anisotropy is reversed. The reversal occurs at 182 +/- 20 kOe for x = 0.0081, and at 195 +/- 20 kOe for x = 0.0159. Theoretical calculations based on: 1) the standard static crystal field model, and 2) another model which includes the dynamic Jahn-Teller effect, are both in a reasonably good agreement with the data.
