摘要
A synopsis is presented of the current knowledge of the ecology of Lyme borreliosis, a tick-borne disease of man and domestic animals caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi (Fam. Spirochaetaceae). The role of various vertebrates and hard ticks of the subgenus Ixodes as hosts (reservoirs and vectors) of B. burgdorferi in Europe and North America is critically discussed with emphasis on tick-Borrelia relationships. The author also outlines still open questions and some possible perspectives of future research. Further paragraphs briefly review principal biological properties, transmission, and occurrence of the causative agent, the disease as well as prophylactic measures against tick-bites.
