PREPARATION OF LAB6 SINGLE-CRYSTALS BY THE FLOATING ZONE METHOD

摘要
Single crystals of LaB6 were prepared from a molten zone with an excess of lanthanum (B:La < 6) in order to improve the crystal quality by decreasing the growth temperature. Subgrain boundaries were hardly observed in the crystal when the zone composition was B:La less-than-or-equal-to 3.6. Then the growth temperature was lower than 2500-degrees-C, more than 200-degrees-C lower than the melting point of LaB6 (2715-degrees-C).
