SPIN-ORBIT-SPLITTING IN MGXZN1-X TE ALLOYS

摘要
The spin-orbit splitting 0 and 1 of electron energy levels at the and points are obtained for the alloys MgxZn1-xTe in the cubic range x<0.5 from wavelength-modulation reflectivity measurements at both T=300 K and T=82 K. Within experimental scattering, 0 and 1 do not depend on x and T. These data are explained by semiempirical developments on the basis of the well-known time-sharing relation following the Berolo-Woolley analysis. An evaluation of the multiplicative factor in this relation is made for 0 by introducing the metallicities of end compounds. In addition, we give a new set of a parameters for the calculation of 0 in II-VI binary compounds from the time-sharing relation. Finally, an estimation is made of 0 and 1 for MgTe: 00.95 eV and 10.6 eV. The 23 law is roughly observed for end compounds and ternary alloys. © 1979 The American Physical Society.
