DNA VARIATION IN PLANT-POPULATIONS

摘要
Analyses of evolutionarily conservative sequences such as chloroplast DNA are particularly powerful for determining genetic relationships among populations and species. Some sequences, such as mini-satellites, are much more variable and provide genotypic markers that can be used to gain insights into the clonal biology of plants. The application of DNA analysis to the study of plant populations is still in its infancy and many areas require further development. Although many technical difficulties remain to be resolved, the insights already gained suggest that DNA analysis will be an exciting and productive area of future research.
