摘要
This overview will survey efforts that have been made to date to answer essentially three questions. 1. (1) Are defects essential for first-order displacive transformations? 2. (2) If so, which are those defects? 3. (3) What is the energy and the configuration of the "critical state", i.e. the activated state just prior to the onset of growth of the new phase? © 1990.
