DETERMINATION OF GR/GL IN LEFT-RIGHT SYMMETRICAL MODELS AT HADRON COLLIDERS

Recently proposed rare decays Z' --> f1f2VBAR (with V = W or Z and f1,2 ordinary fermions) and the forward-backward asymmetry are found to be sensitive diagnostic tests for the gauge coupling ratio gR/gL in left-right symmetric models (SU2L x SU2R x U1(B-L)). At projected luminosities of the CERN Large Hadron Collider and the Superconducting Super Collider, gR/gL can be determined statistically to approximately 1% for M(Z') congruent-to 1 TeV. The absence of related decays W' +/- --> f1f2WBAR +/- would be a clean signature that W' couples to right-handed currents. Once gR/gL is determined, the ratio M(Z')/M(W') and the decays z' --> W+W- (W' +/- --> W +/- Z) provide probes for the symmetry breaking sector.
