This review deals with recent advances in the study of interactions of nonionic surfactants with proteins, peptides, amino acids, membrane phospholipids, and organisms. The effect of surfactants on the structure and biological activity of the interacting biomolecules and organisms is discussed, with emphasis on the impact of hydrophobic and hydrophilic molecular substructures on biological efficiency.
