INHIBITION OF CELLULOLYTIC ACTIVITY BY LACTATE IN A CELLULOMONAS-UDA SPECIES

摘要
The effects of lactate inhibition of cellulose and glucose biodegradation by Cellulomonas uda species were studied. The results show that a rather low concentration of lactate can strongly inhibit cellulose but not glucose degradation. These results suggest that lactate inhibits not only cellulase activities but also cellulase synthesis and thus contributes to the incomplete degradation of crystalline cellulose, often observed with Cellulomonas cultures.
