UNLEARNING OF LIST 1 WRONG ITEMS IN VERBAL DISCRIMINATION TRANSFER

Unlearning of List 1 intrapair right-wrong (R-W) associations (between R-W items of a verbal discrimination list) was found for the W1-R1, W2-R1 transfer paradigm. Ss were 60 undergraduates. The results were attributed to the A-B, A-C interference relationship generated by the R1-W1, R1-W2 associations of the 2 lists during List 2 practice. Unlearning of the incidentally learned R1-W1 associations occurred even though intentional learning (i.e., intrapair discriminations between W and R items) yielded pronounced positive transfer.
