摘要
When pulling lithium niobate single crystals perpendicular to c, current flow by application of an electrical field between crucible (+) and seed holder (-) influence the crystal morphology. The effects are assigned to an electrocapillary reduction of the specific interface free energy between melt and atomically flat facets, resulting in narrower facets and ridges. This effect can be applied to suppress polycrystal formation upon LiNbO3 growth in y direction. Depending on the charge flown, the electrochemical processes can disturb crystal growth by gas evolution in the melt or corrosion of the seed crystal.
