摘要
Heteropolyacids (HPAs) such as dodecatungstophosphoric and -silicic acid, adsorb strongly onto activated carbon. The adsorption is believed to involve proton transfer from the HPA to the carbon. Adsorption isotherms of heteropolyacids from aqueous and organic solutions are given and the influence of modification of the chemical structure of the carbon by oxidation or high-temperature treatment is examined. Some types of carbon give rise to a shell-type adsorption as shown by SEM-EDX photographs. The maximum adsorption capacity cannot be attributed to a single property of the activated carbon. Probably a complex of factors determines the adsorption capacity.
