L-GLUTAMATE SPECIFIC [H-3] KAINIC ACID BINDING IN THE RAT NEOSTRIATUM AFTER DEGENERATION OF THE CORTICO-STRIATAL PATHWAY

Four weeks after lesion of the cortico-striatal pathway, the specific kainic acid binding was reduced by 20% in the neostriatum. It is concluded that the binding sites are most likely not located on cortico-striatal neurons. The displacement of kainic acid by some chemical indicates that the kainic acid binding sites is different from the glutamate binding site, as defined iontophoretically. © 1979.
