摘要
The electro-oxidation of formaldehyde on polycrystalline platinum electrodes was investigated in aqueous alkaline solutions. The voltammetric behaviour was observed and the number N(eps) of electrons per site was determined. Electrochemically modulated IR reflectance spectroscopy (EMIRS) was used to identify the adsorbed species at different electrode potentials. Typical bands associated with linearly and bridge-bonded CO were observed. The spectra obtained showed bands which correspond to formic acid, which is an oxidation product. Mechanisms for the poison formation and for the oxidation process are proposed based on both voltammetric and spectroelectrochemical results.
