AN EFFECT OF COUPLING STRENGTH BETWEEN THE ELEMENTS IN A MAPPING SYSTEM - POSSIBILITY OF DIFFERENT ROUTES TO CHAOS

摘要
A coupled Ikeda mapping is used to study the effect induced by increasing the coupling strenght between the elements. Evidence for a new transition to chaos is shown. As the coupling strength is increased, the pitchfork bifurcation cascade will be replaced by a S-C transition, i.e. a transition between a symmetrical solution and a "chaotic" solution. The probability distribution within the chaotic regime is utilized to characterize the onset of such a transition. A qualitative interpretation is also given. © 1990.
