Movement of Br- in a Flanagan silt loam (fine, montmorillonitic, mesic Aquic Argiudoll) managed under five different tillage systems and subjected to three simulated rainfall intensities was documented. Under low (10 mm/h) and medium (25 mm/h) simulated rainfall intensities, movement of Br- in the soil profile was not significantly different between moldboard plow, chisel plow, disk plow, para-till, and no-till systems. When subjected to a high simulated rainfall intensity, significantly greater Br- movement occurred in the soil profile managed under continuous, long-term no-till. Greater movement of Br- in the no-till soil was attributed to preferential flow.
