摘要
We present for the first time an exact non-perturbative calculation of the variance of the conductance var(g) = g(2) - g(-2) of a thick metallic wire for any value of the parameter L/xi, L being the length of the wire and xi the localization length. This is achieved by mapping the original problem onto an effective supersymmetric sigma-model and developing the Fourier analysis on its field space. In the case of symplectic symmetry both the mean value and the variance of the conductance tend to non-zero values ($) over bar g --> e(2)/2h, var(g) --> (e(2)/2h)(2) when L/xi --> infinity.
