摘要
This paper discusses recent studies of the chemistry of coadsorbed molecules at single-crystal metal surfaces. By combining photoelectron and vibrational spectroscopies it has been shown that highly selective low-energy pathways become available during coadsorption that lead to metastable species. The role of precursor and transient states is considered, and estimates are made of their surface lifetimes and concentrations through modelling the reactions.
