KINETICS OF ANTIBODY ASSOCIATION WITH SPIN-LABEL HAPTENS ON MEMBRANE SURFACES

The problem of the kinetics of the dissociation of bivalent antibodies bound to lipid haptens on model membrane surfaces is discussed, with particular attention to the ability of the lipid haptens and membrane-bound antibodies to diffuse laterally in the plane of the membrane. Paramagnetic resonance and fluorescent techniques for analyzing the kinetics are described, and preliminary experimental results are given. It is concluded that the most significant interaction between the antibodies and the membrane surface, under the conditions used, is through the simultaneous binding of both combining sites of the antibodies to the membrane-bound lipid haptens. © 1979 American Chemical Society.
