BIOSYNTHESIS OF THYROGLOBULIN IN NORMAL HUMAN AND DIFFERENT THYROID-DISEASES

摘要
A study of protein biosynthesis in normal human and different thyroid diseases was carried out on 30 thyroid specimens. The synthesis of thyroglobulin and other thyroid protein was evaluated by gel filtration technique, and after separation of protein fraction the total radioactivity was measured using LKB liquid scintillation counter. The results of these studies reveal that in diseased glands there is quantitive decrease in 19 S thyroglobulin and 27 S iodoprotein synthesis with associated increase in 12 S subunits in comparison to normal. Most of the newly synthesized protein in diseased gland was found in the form of 12 S subunits rather than in the mature 19 S thyroglobulin. A study of biosynthesis of thyroid protein was carried out in the presence and absence of iodine, and the results of such studies reveal that iodine increases the rate of formation of 19 S thyroglobulin with concomitant decrease of free 12 S protein. © 1979.
