Young male rice rats maintained on a powdered diet were treated for 10 days with either ethane-1-hydroxy-1,1-diphosphonate (EHDP) or dichloromethylene diphosphonate (Cl2MDP) at a dose of 4 mg/kg body weight. Cl2MDP-recipients displayed significantly less alveolar bone loss than EHDP-recipients (p < 0.05) or control animals (p < 0.01) when examined 2 weeks after the treatment. © 1979.
