A new electrochemical method to determine the oxygen content of YBa2Cu3O7-delta(0.08 less-than-or-equal-to delta less-than-or-equal-to 0.5) has been developed by correlating the open-circuit voltage (OCV) with delta. In the superconducting domain, the observed OCV value increases linearly as the oxygen vacancy decreases with the following equation: delta = -0.0018 E(i=0) (mV) + 1.04; r=0.99. Since no change in oxygen content is found before and after the electrochemical measurements, we propose that this is a prompt and new nondestructive analytical way compared to any other methods previously reported.
