摘要
Results of a new spectroscopic survey for damped Lyalpha absorption systems conducted at ultraviolet wavelengths are combined with those of previous surveys conducted at optical wavelengths in order to examine the evolution of the gaseous content of the universe at 0 less than or similar to z less than or similar to 3.5. Implications for scenarios of galaxy formation and evolution are discussed.
