摘要
The paper presents excited state absorption (ESA) studies of Nd3+ doped Y3Al5O12, YLiF4 and LaMgAl11O19 laser crystals. ESA was shown to play an important role for allowing laser action in the case of flash lamp pumping, and it can be modelized using the Judd-Ofelt theory. However, the up-conversion losses by energy transfers in the metastable emitting state are proved to be important too, since they can be responsible for the limitation of the storage capacity of this level at high excitation pump powers.
