摘要
The improvement in the quality of monogerm sugar beet seed and in the performance of pre-emergence herbicides for use in the sugar beet crop, together with the introduction of the Bipyridyl group of contact herbicides and the development of solid state electronic component has made the electro-chemical thinning of sugar beet and other rowcrops a viable proposition. A single row prototype electro-chemical thinner was developed, with which a fan of viscous herbicide actuated by an electronic sensing and control system was applied to unwanted seedlings. It was evaluated in the sugar beet crop by comparison with conventional mechanical thinning and high quality hand work. © 1969.
