摘要
The nucleation and early stages of oxide growth on pure Fe in de-ionised water at 250 °C have been observed by electron microscopy. Two different types of growth, corresponding to the well-known Potter-Mann and Bloom forms, were observed depending on the presence or absence of an external cathode during oxidation. The difference between the two modes of growth is ascribed to a field-enhanced difference in the surface mobilities of the reaction products. © 1968 Pergamon Press.
