The trinuclear compound (NBu4)2{Pb[Pt(C6F5)4)2} which has been prepared in 82% yield, displays a linear Pt-Pb-Pt moiety. Eight Pb...o-F short contacts and a stereochemically inactive lone pair on the lead atom are other striking features in the anion of this unprecedented complex. The Pb-Pt distances arc 2.769 (2) and 2.793 (2) angstrom, the average Pb...o-F contact is 2.845 angstrom, and the Pt-Pb-Pt angle is 178.6 (1)-degrees.
