摘要
When transport through a strongly adherent oxide film on a metal is via cations, vacancies are generated in the metal at the metal-oxide interface. If the concentration of vacancies at the metaloxide interface rises above the equilibrium concentration, the reverse reaction at that interface (i.e. metal ions going from the oxide into the metal) will be enhanced. This will have the effect of reducing the oxidation rate thereby altering the oxidation kinetics. Rate equations are calculated for a variety of limiting cases. For the cases where no internal vacancy sinks are present in the metal the thickness of the metal being oxidized enters the rate equations as a parameter. © 1969.
