摘要
The surface chemistry that drives the macroscopic electrical response of WO3 hydrogen sulfide detectors has been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) on well-defined surfaces prepared in ultra-high vacuum (UHV). H2S has been shown to interact chemically with the WO3 such that oxygen is removed from the surface. The oxidation and reduction of oxygen vacancies in the surface is the principal mechanism by which the device operates.
