摘要
The density dependence of the depolarized light intensity in monoatomic gases is considered. A theoretical analysis based on a virial expansion of the pair, triplet, and quadruplet contributions is developed. The results are compared with existing and new molecular dynamics experiments at different densities. A simple extrapolation model for the total intensity is in good agreement with the computer data in the whole range investigated. A comparison with experimental data at moderate densities confirms that here the assumed dipole-induced-dipole model for the polarizability anisotropy gives the overwhelming contribution. © 1979 Taylor & Francis Ltd.
