EFFECTS OF GROUP COUNSELING AS AN ADJUNCTIVE PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE

Programed 2 types of group counseling as adjunctive educational-therapeutic experiences for 30 counselors undergoing supervised practicum experiences. Comparisons were made pretreatment, over time and treatment, and posttreatment for the 2 groups. Results indicate that Ss receiving affective group counseling significantly increased in ability to respond to counselees affect, but did not show corresponding changes in degree of lead or variability in response patterns. It is concluded that if teaching response to affect is a desired outcome of supervised practicum, then candidate involvement in group counseling emphasizing this dimension has a carryover effect to individual counseling behavior.
