INHIBITION OF K+ UPTAKE, H+ EXTRUSION AND K+-ACTIVATED ATPASE, AND DEPOLARIZATION OF TRANSMEMBRANE POTENTIAL IN PLANT-TISSUES TREATED WITH CERCOSPORA-BETICOLA TOXIN

摘要
Cercospora beticola toxin (CBT) induced a rapid loss of electrolytes, β-cyanin and amino acids from plant tissues. Treatment with CBT inhibited potassium uptake in corn roots, whereas it did not affect K+ transport in activated discs of potato and red beet. The toxin was active in inhibiting H+ extrusion, root elongation, ATPase activity of plasmalemma-enriched fractions and in depolarizing transmembrane potentials of corn roots. K+-dependent ATPase was inhibited in vitro by about 75% by CBT. © 1979.
