ANISOTROPY OF MAGNETIC FORM FACTOR IN 3D FERROMAGNETIC METALS

A band theoretic explanation of the isotropy of the magnetic form factor of Co and its contrasting behavior with respect to Ni is shown to result both from the lowered Fermi level within the d bands and the more complicated form of these bands in hcp Co. APW calculations were performed for this purpose and used to construct an interpolated band picture for ferromagnetic Co assuming rigid d-band splitting. Some minor modifications of the Ni band structure proposed by us earlier are also discussed. © 1968 The American Institute of Physics.
