摘要：

We describe a technique for measuring electric quadrupolar susceptibility using an array of microscopic needle electrodes. The measurement and its analysis are both generalizations of the dielectric susceptibility. We have tested this technique on a liquid crystal, and have shown that the quadrupolar susceptibility is detectable and distinct from the dielectric response.
